Man transported to Taranaki Base Hospital in serious condition after truck rolls in New Plymouth

A man is in serious condition after being trapped when a truck rolled on top of him in New Plymouth.

Police, fire and ambulance staff were called to the scene on Hurford Rd about 1.15pm on Monday after the tree-felling truck he was working with rolled onto its side.

A witness said the truck began rolling down the road and the man chased it to try and jump in and stop it.

Before he could, the truck hit a bank and rolled onto its side, trapping the man from the hips down.

The witness said the man was alert while emergency services were working to free him.

A St John spokesperson said the man was transported to Taranaki Base Hospital by ambulance in a serious condition.

A worker from Tree Machine, a company that specialises in tree care and maintenance, confirmed one of its workers was involved in the incident but did not want to comment further.

Worksafe has been notified and is currently making inquiries.
